Master Bedroom Makeover
Light and bright are my go to design elements, it makes rooms appear larger and more inviting. There are some rules to live by to achieve this look. Not all of these rules have to be used to create the look, but I would say numbers 1,2,3 are my favorite.
One of the obvious techniques to getting a light and bright area is paint the room a light neutral color.
Change out your light bulbs from the standard soft white bulbs to daylight bulbs. This can completely change an atmosphere of the room
White trim
Light colored furniture
Light colored curtains
Light colored bedding
Bright accents
*** One key reminder, you don’t always have to have white walls and white trim to create the light and bright look.In fact I would encourage some contrast somewhere. For example, white trim, light gray walls, and bright accents.
The master bedroom that we have in our new rental is quite spacious and could use some bright elements and a pop of color. When we first moved in, the master bedroom was a dark teal/green with dark gray trim. There was also evidence to suggest a child found a paint brush and splashed the dark gray color on the walls. Needless to say, it needed an update. I typically stay with a gray scale paint color, this time I tried something a little bolder and it still made the room look brighter and more inviting. So, even though the guidelines listed above are great rules to start off with, you can still be creative with color!
Let’s check out some before pictures.
So we painted the trim a bright white and the walls an updated navy and added a pop of color. The remodel isn’t completely over, I would like to (someday) build a new headboard, and add some wall art. But until then here is our makeover!
